My link/comment policy

I thought I’d make a very simple page to disclose this blog’s policy on outgoing links and user comments, and publish a brief (and probably superfluous) disclosure.

Link Policy

NO Bullshit Needless to say, I only link out to relevant stuff from my blog, so links in my posts are usually dofollow, except when I link out to pages whose content or nature I don’t completely appreciate, or which I don’t want to promote. That includes affiliate content, which I’d normally avoid linking to at all; in the rare case that I decide to link out to relevant third-party content which also appears to be affiliate content, I will nofollow the link and publicly disclose the “paid advertisement” nature of the page I’m sending traffic to.

NO Paid Links Links in my comments follow the same guidelines: as the blog author, all links in my own comments are dofollow by default, thanks to a special WordPress plugin that I made; however, I may choose to apply the nofollow attribute to selected links on a case-by-case basis (see above).

And just in case you were wondering: no, links from this blog are not for sale.

Comment Policy

Comments are moderated: spammy, irrelevant and/or offensive comments will get nuked automatically, but I may decide not to approve your comment for whatever reason –and in case I feel I owe you an explanation, I will do so privately. I may also choose to publish your comment in an edited form: in such case, any edit will be disclosed. If you have at least one published comment on my blog, your new comments will be automatically approved, but I may still edit or delete them.

All links in user comments are nofollowed by default. Linking to on-topic, high-quality content is strongly encouraged: I’ll be happy to manually lift the nofollow penalty from links that I deem meet these requirements, while links on usernames will always remain nofollowed, no matter how cool or authoritative the commenter might be.

NO Spam Dropping irrelevant/spammy links in comments is strongly discouraged as it will lead me to delete your comment or –even worse– decide to edit it just to let the World know how hopeless you are; and in doing so, I might remove any link or alter its anchor text and/or URL just for fun, or for the deliberate purpose of screwing up your search engine rankings.

In short: be nice and I’ll be nice; be naughty and I’ll make you cry. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Disclosure

NO Sneaky Ads I work as a freelance search marketing consultant. I don’t get paid by anyone for maintaining this blog, nor do I use it to promote my clients. Currently the only form of sponsorship is through contextual ads on the Google-powered site search result pages. I don’t do affiliate posts. The day I choose to monetize this blog through additional forms of sponsorship, you can rest assured that any advertisement will be disclosed and clearly labeled as such.
